Congress just got back from August recess, and Republicans are already putting fossil fuel profits ahead of our communities, our climate, and our future.
This week, they used an unprecedented process to overturn three Resource Management Plans that were carefully negotiated over multiple years and finalized under the Biden administration. These plans balanced conservation, recreation, and responsible development.
Republicans threw them away for the sake of fossil fuel development. This is a coordinated, nationwide assault on our public lands and the principle that our shared resources should be managed for the benefit of everyone — not the oil and gas industry.
This Congress, SEEC created a Lands, Waters, and Nature Task Force specifically to fight back against this sort of extremism. It’s led by SEEC Co-Chair Doris Matsui of California, SEEC Vice Chair Don Beyer of Virginia, and SEEC Member Maxine Dexter of Oregon. They’re fighting in the halls of Congress to protect our public lands so they can be enjoyed by all of us for many years to come.
